Post Amputation Pain / Phantom Limb Pain

Phantom limb pain is a very painful condition where one will experienced a sensation in the distribution where the amputated or missing lim would normally be located.  It is as if the limb feels that it is still attached to the body.  Roughly 60-80% of individuals with amputations will experience phantom sensations.  It is important to note that not all phantom limb sensations are painful.  However, when those patients who experience pain are seeking treatment, there are many effective, therapeutic modalities available.  The pain can range from warm, cold, burning, squeezing, itching,  twitching, to extremely agonizing.
